Need a New Challenge!?Get out of the office; Do a Spartan Race!

Doing a spartan race with a team of people can be the next best thing to do that’ll get everyone moving and overcoming new challenges. Many people in the corporate world today spend too much time behind the desk and end up with all types of health issues. More importantly, our mental firepower is in tune with our physical regimen so we should also consider these cognitive benefits: Improved concentration, Increased memory, lower levels of stress, enhanced creativity, and increased mental stamina.

The courses are not just meant for very athletic people, it’s also meant for people that need to get out of the office and be active. So if you have ever contemplated about doing one, go for it! Yes, it’s challenging but thats the purpose of the team. Moreover, the people outside of your team are very encouraging as well. I didn’t see anyone left behind nor did I leave anyone that was struggling beside me. There are different courses you can take that allows you to start light and get a taste of what the other courses may be like. The Spartan Sprint is for starters (what me and my team completed), then its the Spartan Super, Spartan Beast and it just gets bad after that.

SPARTAN SPRINT

The Spartan Sprint is a 3-5 mile race with 20-23 obstacles. The obstacles consisted of rope climbing, bucket carry (full of rocks), Sand bag pulls, Crawling under barbwire (rocks embedded in ground), Monkey bars, pipe crawls (rocks inside the pipes), Inverted wall climbs, wall limbs, Z-wall (horizontal bouldering obstacle), swimming in muddy water, Climbing mud slopes, Concrete sphere carry +5 burpees, and etc. BUT! don’t panic, whatever you can’t do you just replace it with burpees; 30 to be exact. Oh the joy! But if you have a true team they’ll divide that 30 between each individual to conserve energy.

SPARTAN SUPER

The Spartan Super is the next obstacle course to complete. The Spartan Super is approximately 8-10 miles that holds 24-29 obstacles. Me and a team will be doing this one in Fayetteville on June 1st!

SPARTAN BEAST

The Spartan Beast is 12-16 miles with 30+ obstacles. There’s no telling what kind of obstacles are a part of the beast, but I do know that they are meant to challenge your mental courage in the midst of pain and physical strength of course. I know this because a few of the obstacles that I wanted to give up on, I only completed because my team helped encourage me not to give up.
